Most Christians I know can recite The Lord’s Prayer by heart. Jesus taught the disciples this prayer during His time on earth to teach them His father’s desire for a personal relationship with them. This prayer was never meant to be recited by a crowd in public. In the book of Matthew, chapter 6, Jesus encouraged the disciples to find a secret place, away from the audience of men, to pray to the Father.
For those less familiar, the model prayer from Matthew 6:9–13 (NKJV) is as follows:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
As I studied divine healing, I came to understand the power of this portion of the prayer, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” We are praying for God’s will to manifest in our lives.
Understanding that God’s will for us is to always be healthy was an important foundation in praying healing for someone. If I am simply agreeing with God’s will, I know I am always praying the right thing.
How do I know it is God’s will that you be healthy? I like to rest on the promise of Romans 12:2 (NKJV), “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
God’s will is perfect. And by perfect, I am happy to declare that means no sickness or disease. There is no sickness and disease in Heaven – in God’s Kingdom. The statement just before “Your will be done” is “Your Kingdom come.” God is instructing us to pray that the realities of God’s Kingdom come into earth, so that His will may be done on earth.
There is no sickness in Heaven, therefore it is not God’s will there be sickness on earth. My healing prayers are simply seeing the person in front of me as God sees them – and agreeing the sickness attacking them needs to leave so that God’s will prevails.
Later in the book of Matthew, in chapter 18, verse 18 (NKJV), Jesus says, “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth with be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth with be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”
So let’s get to agreeing that sickness and disease have no place in our lives! Let’s agree that God’s perfect will for us is divine health! In Jesus’ name, I can bind whatever tries to afflict me. Let’s bind cancer! Bind migraines! Bind diabetes!
